Collection: Damask Series

A deep-textured fabric woven with satin weave is called "donsu" (damask), characterized by its rich luster and smooth feel.
Donsu came to Japan from China during the Kamakura period, and some examples have been preserved as "meibutsu-gire" (celebrated fabrics). It is a fabric sometimes used for obi sashes, scroll mounts, tea ceremony utensils, and shifuku (protective bags for tea bowls). This series of crafts is made from fabric that takes advantage of the unique characteristics of donsu.
