The beautiful "Donzu Series" with lustrous fabric
The rich fabric expressed through satin weave is called "Donzu" (緞子), characterized by its rich luster and smooth texture. Donzu arrived in Japan from China during the Kamakura period, and some examples are still preserved as "Meibutsu-gire" (名物裂 - celebrated fabrics). This fabric is sometimes used for obis, mounting materials, tea ceremony utensils, and shikfuku (kimono bags). This is a series of crafts made from fabric that utilizes the special characteristics of Donzu.
