Donzu came to Japan from China during the Kamakura period, and some of it has been passed down as "meibutsu-gire" (renowned fabric).
It is a fabric sometimes used for obi sashes, mounting for scrolls, tea ceremony utensils, and shifuku (protective pouches). This is a series of crafts made from fabric that utilizes the characteristics of this donzu.
