The beautiful "Donzu Series" with lustrous fabric
The richly textured fabric, created using a satin weave, is called donzu, and is characterized by its smooth, lustrous surface. Donzu was introduced to Japan from China during the Kamakura period, and some examples are still preserved as "Meibutsu-gire" (celebrated textiles). This fabric is sometimes used for obis, mounting materials, tea ceremony utensils, and shifuku (protective pouches). This series of crafts is made from fabric that utilizes the special characteristics of donzu.
