The beautiful "Donzu Series" with lustrous fabric
Fabric with a rich texture created by satin weaving is called "donzu," characterized by its smooth, lustrous surface. Donzu came to Japan from China during the Kamakura period, and some examples are preserved as "Meibutsu-gire" (celebrated fabrics). It is a fabric sometimes used for obi sashes, hanging scroll mounts, tea ceremony utensils, and shifuku (protective bags for tea utensils). This series of craft items is made from fabric that utilizes the special characteristics of donzu.
