Hello, this is Yamaguchi from Jihanz Kyoto. Thank you for always reading.
Today, I'd like to change the topic a bit and talk about the Gion Festival, which is held in Kyoto during the summer.
Last week, on July 10th, the "Hokotate" (erection of the floats) took place. I took some photos of it.
The sight of the huge floats being assembled using traditional methods, without a single nail, just ropes and other materials, is always breathtaking no matter how many times I see it.
The Gion Festival continues throughout the entire month of July, with the Saki Matsuri (forward festival), Ato Matsuri (later festival), and other events.
It's the height of summer, but please do stop by Kyoto.

Below, I've researched the Gion Festival. Please take a look for reference.
The Gion Festival is nationally known as Kyoto's representative summer festival. Held throughout July each year, this traditional festival is a celebration of Yasaka Shrine and is one of Japan's most prominent festivals, boasting over 1100 years of history.
The origins of the Gion Festival date back to the Heian period. At that time, Kyoto was plagued by epidemics. It is believed to have begun with prayers offered to Susanoo-no-Mikoto, the deity of Yasaka Shrine, to quell these diseases. Since then, the Gion Festival has been cherished by the people of Kyoto as a festival that wishes for the eradication of epidemics and the prosperity of the town.
The greatest highlight of the Gion Festival is undoubtedly the Yamaboko Junko (procession of floats). The sight of elaborately decorated floats and hoko (spear-like floats) parading through the center of Kyoto is magnificent. Each yamaboko is adorned with Edo period artworks and crafts, earning them the nickname "moving museums." The procession, held twice during July for the Saki Matsuri and Ato Matsuri, captivates many tourists and locals alike.
During the Gion Festival, evening events known as Yoiyama are also held. The sight of yamaboko lined up with lanterns lit is fantastic and beautiful, and it is the time when the atmosphere of the festival can be felt most strongly. You can fully enjoy the summer charm of Kyoto.
When visiting Kyoto, please consider coming during the Gion Festival. By experiencing this festival, filled with over 1100 years of tradition and the sentiments of the people of Kyoto, you will be able to more deeply understand the charm of this ancient capital.
