Hello! This is Yamaguchi from JHands Kyoto. It's already July! June 30th marked the end of the first half of the year. In Kyoto, shrines display large rings woven from "chinowa" (chrysanthemum grass), and people pass through them to pray.
This event is called "Nagoshi no Harae" (Summer Purification) in June, a Shinto ritual to cleanse impurities and sins accumulated unknowingly over the past six months. I also went to a shrine on the evening of June 30th to pray.
